About the project

TAICO, Teacher-AI Complementarity,

TAICO, Teacher-AI Complementarity, addresses a pressing challenge at the intersection of education and technology: how to ethically and effectively integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into educational settings to complement and enhance the teaching profession. TAICo addresses AI’s impact on education by balancing automation with human-centric teaching. Amid Europe’s teacher shortage and lifelong learning demands, it aligns AI with human skills for inclusive growth. Engaging 200+ educators, it develops evidence-based guidelines for educators, policymakers, and EdTech. AI’s Impact on Education The rapid rise of AI is transforming teaching, automating tasks, and enhancing educators’ capabilities. However, unregulated AI use may widen skill gaps and weaken the human-centered nature of education.

With Europe’s teacher shortage and growing lifelong learning needs, TAICo aligns AI with human skills for inclusive growth. By engaging 200+ educators, it develops evidence-based guidelines for teachers, policymakers, and EdTech leaders. The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating huge demand for AI skills, with nearly 60 million new jobs expected globally in the next five years (EC, 2020). Education plays a key role in helping people gain the knowledge needed to use AI effectively and ethically. Teachers are essential in guiding learners not just to use AI tools but also to understand their impact. However, many teachers feel overwhelmed by rapid AI developments and unclear on how best to integrate them into their work. At the same time, education systems are behind in adopting AI compared to other sectors. This gap risks increasing the digital divide and affecting future job opportunities. To address this, educational institutions and policymakers need clear guidelines for using AI in a way that benefits both teachers and students (UNESCO, 2023). The EdTech industry is also seeking better knowledge on how to apply AI in teaching and learning. TAICo aims to develop and test a model where teachers and AI work together, ensuring education systems can adapt to a changing world.
