#ThinkB4UClick – The CyberSecMonth is coming!

Author: Alessandra d’Arrigo

The European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) is the European Union’s annual campaign that wants to raise awareness of cybersecurity threats and promotes cybersecurity among citizens and organisations.

This year the official motto of ECSM 2020 is ‘Think Before U Click’ #ThinkB4UClick.

As presented by the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), the programme focuses on two themes to help people identify and be prepared for cyber threats. The first theme, ‘Digital Skills’, provides participants with information on e-privacy matters such as personal data protection, cyberbullying and cyberstalking. The second theme, ‘Cyber Scams’, shares insights into current and potential cyber threats such as phishing, business email compromise and online shopping fraud.

Why is it relevant to be aware of cyber threats?
The Covid-19 pandemic suddenly increased our presence online and the number of data digitally processed. In this new hyperconnected reality, it is crucial to develop a set of skills to safely use the internet in our everyday life. Being aware of cyber threats and establishing good practices for managing personal data and private information is essential to avoid the risk of being unintentionally exposed on the internet.

What are we doing to fight against cybercrime?
The European Digital Learning Network  in partnership with the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT), the Knowledge, Innovation and Strategies Management Club (KISMC)IDEC, the University of Deusto (UD) and the Association of Knowledge and Applied Technologies Industries (GAIA) with the project IoTNuggets “Internet of Things security nuggets” co-financed by the Erasmus plus programme of the European Commission (Bulgarian National Agency), are developing a new methodology and framework with a model of digital competence for the Security of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem including security and privacy to face the challenges that cybersecurity puts in place.

The results of the project will be available in the next months, STAY TUNED!
