The VET week…initiatives from our members

Dlearn has actively participated to the 2017 VET Week through the events organised by its members and launching a European communication campaign to promote and endorse the activities of the annual celebration.

The 2017 event, promoted by the European Commission through the DG EMPL (Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion) was a great success! 1585 events organised in 45 countries which followed the results of the 2016 edition.

In 2017 the week has been organised from the 20th to the 24th of November, although several activities preceded the main week – during which other events took place in Brussels too.

In Brussels, Gianluca Coppola, President of Dlearn, was invited by the Commission as an expert to participate in the discussion concerning the future of VET in Europe. It was an excellent occasion to share views among other experts, insiders, and representatives of the labour market. Dlearn is always in the front row when it comes to outlining the future of professional education in Europe.

Let’s have a look at some initiatives promoted by Dlearn members in their countries:

  • Poland. The Technological University of Lodz , held the event on the 22nd of November, targeting students, teachers, and companies with more than1500 participants. Perhaps the presence of the Polish Ministry of Digitalisation had raised the expectations and the prestige.
  • Romania. On November 22nd, the North-East Regional Development held a Conference called “Teach for Future”. The main topic of the Conference was developed around the modernisation of educational processes by adopting new teaching technologies and mechanisms.
  • Bulgaria. Another Conference was set by the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry, one of the four oldest Chambers in Bulgaria. The main item regarded the challenge of climate change and how to involve the citizens’ support.
  • Greece. The climate change theme was faced by another workshop, held by Foundation for Research and Technology – FORTH, one of the largest research centres in Greece. IDEC a consultancy company based in Piraeus, was in charge of the other event distributed all over the VET Week, a set of information campaign, seminars, and meetings aimed at training teachers, evaluating quality assurance in Education, through a social media campaign. Atlantis, another Greek organisation, held an event on November 23rd about the Open Source Software (FOSS), which is considered to be a big opportunity for SMEs.
  • Slovenia. In terms of strict relation to the job-market, the last day of the VET Week saw an event held by the Slovenian Member of Dlearn, the Adult Education Centre of Žalec, aimed to a peculiar region of the country, Savinja. Furthermore, UPI promoted an “ask-an-expert session” called “Find your talent”, with the aim of both informing and helping employees to use their skills at best.
  • Spain. On November 20th, Open Europe dedicated an interactive workshop to the Erasmus + programme, and its relationship with vocational schools. The information and the analysis of the internships abroad which students might apply to, could revealed themselves as fundamental in the fragile path of a young student who is slightly approaching to the job market.

It was a busy, though rich and rewarding week for our network. Next year Dlearn will be at the 2018 VET Week again – Vienna, Austria, from 5 to 9 November 2018 – ready to take on new challenges and to hold even more events through its members.

We’ll be waiting for you. Are you going to be there?
